Symptoms of this illness include muscle pain, fever, fatigue, a loss in appetite and headaches. The disease is a version of ehrlichiosis that is also spread by ticks and can also cause flu-like symptoms. Unlike the more common Lyme disease, Heartland is a virus and not a bacterial illness. There have been only nine cases of Heartland reported in the United States, largely in the Midwest since the virus was discovered, making the information on the disease somewhat scarce. However, some recent developments have revealed that the virus is circulating in several other states, including Florida, after being found in animals like deer, raccoons, coyotes and moose. While ticks are widely known for spreading Lyme disease, the lone star tick that is also found throughout the southeastern United States does not in fact spread the illness. You can reduce the odds of being bitten by staying away from heavily wooded areas and taking preventative measures such as applying insect repellant with DEET and wearing long, protective clothing. Snakes and Toads: Nature’s Garden Pest Control https://lovepowerx.com/snakes-and-toads-natures-garden-pest-control/ Mon, 14 Sep 2015 15:01:48 +0000 https://lovepowerx.com/?p=5642 PowerX provides a slew of pest control and South Florida lawn care services.  We have an excellent staff trained to help our clients get rid of unwanted bugs or help you maintain a healthy yard. Did you know that animals can also prove to be a form of pest control? It seems unusual, but knowing which animals could be used to control your pest issues could also save you some money. Typically a snake or a large toad will cause most people to react in horror, which may lead to killing the animals. However, these animals are considered some of the most effective in providing pest control without having to spend a dime. The garter snake, for example, is easily recognizable by its trio of yellow stripes and tends to spend its time near vegetables. It may look scary at first, but the snake is actually docile and will eat garden pests like meadow voles, slugs, caterpillars, and sowbugs. The green snake, another docile animal, consumes grasshoppers as well as hornworms. Toads can consume anywhere between 50 to 100 insects a day, including snails, beetles, grubs, and cutworms. Even though they act as natural pesticides, toads and snakes won’t provide a full fledged solution to a pest problem that’s gotten out of hand.  If this is the case, we encourage you to use the services of a reputable pest control company such as PowerX, which guarantees to solve any type of pest problem you may have.  Nonetheless, the next time you see one of these amphibians and intend to kill it, you may wish to let it do its thing and in return it will help to keep your garden mostly free from unwanted critters. Be careful with dogs and cats around the frogs as they may be dangerous to these pets.

Understanding pest control, lawn care, or landscaping can be a very involved process that some homeowners may not be able to participate in. When hiring a landscaper or a company that is experienced in both landscaping and pest control, it is important to know what exactly they will be doing. Landscaping refers to any activity that enhances the features of an area of land, including floral arrangements, hedges, bodies of water, trees, and other artistic design characteristics. When a landscaping contractor outlines a project, great care is taken to ensure that all aspects and details of the task are completed to the satisfaction of both the client and lawn care specialist. Brief Overview of Bees https://lovepowerx.com/brief-overview-of-bees/ Sun, 09 Aug 2015 18:58:14 +0000 https://lovepowerx.com/?p=5627 Residents living in South Florida are used to dealing with bees. While they provide tasty honey and useful beeswax, they can be bothersome and even dangerous to the few who are allergic to them. PowerX, a company dedicated to serving and protecting homes, yards, and community properties throughout South Florida, has a very extensive South Florida pest library, below is some information regarding this interesting and unique pest. Closely related to wasps and ants, bees are flying insects primarily known for their role in pollination and in the case of the European honeybee, producing honey and beeswax. Currently, there are nearly 20,000 known species of bees in seven to nine recognized families, interestingly many of the insects have yet to be formally described and named, meaning the number could actually be much higher. Found on every continent except for Antarctica, bees are located in every habitat on the planet that contains flowering plants that insects can pollinate. Ranging in size from less than 2 millimeters long to 39 millimeters long (only the female leafcutter bee can attain this length), most of the species, including the honeybee, bumblebee and stingless bee, tend to live in social colonies. Since the times of […]

Since the times of Ancient Egypt and Greece, human beekeeping (known as apiculture) has been practiced religiously. Besides honey and pollination, honeybees also produce beeswax, royal jelly, and propolis (a red or brown substance that is used by the bees to fill crevices, seal, and varnish their honeycombs).

Insect Proofing Your Home Inside OutAll residents in South Florida have come to know and love that with good weather comes bugs. With there being no winter season, the near-constant warmth and sunshine means insect infestations are a yearlong problem. As the leader in South Florida Pest Control, PowerX knows a thing or two about how to protect your home against the constant barrage of bugs.

Seal Your Home Inside and Out – Making sure the exterior and interior of your house is completely sealed is very important in ensuring that your home stays bug free.  So make sure you install and maintain screens on all doors and windows, put weather stripping and/or caulk around all the doors (a good rule of thumb is to remember if you can see any light through the doors or windows then bugs will be able to get in, as well).  Also, make sure that all of your utility lines and appliance vents are sealed and that any cracks in your home’s foundation are covered. Finally, put critter-proof mesh on the vents of your crawl spaces to keep out raccoons, squirrels, and mice, as they can carry all types of unsavory insects with them.

Keep Your Yard Debris Free – Mulch, leaf litter, and other garden debris can provide refuge to lots of different insects. So, keep any lawn clippings and mulch away from the foundation of your house. Make sure you mow your lawn frequently, keeping the grass closest to your house at a short length. Moreover, keeping your trees and shrubs pruned on a regular basis, which will ensure that no bugs can get near your home.

The above recommendations are helpful in ensuring a successful pest control program for your home or business.
